i dont mind it. insurance as a utility player.
nothing wrong with depth.
Jeff Bianchi's replacement.

I don't really see any "upside" here
given the erosion of his stats.
But, there’s really no harm, either. He’s simply an insurance policy to keep at Iowa, I would presume.
I hesitate to even say it… but if Castro were to be… ahem, unavailable… then Barney would be the starting SS and there really wouldn’t be a back-up around. So Amezaga could be insurance against that particular (hopefully remote) possibility.

That's my fear.....insurance for Castro.
Guys, hitting is not about muscle. It's simple physics. Calculate the velocity, v, in relation to the trajectory, t, in which g, gravity, of course remains a constant.... It's not complicated. - George Costanza
agreed. then again Lake is on the 40 man
i in no way feel he is ready, and i feel he is overrate. but going young anyways, let it ride.
Well Barney would presumably start in that situation...
with Amezaga brought up to be a utility guy / back-up.

oh yeah i know that. i was just trying to pretend i wouldnt have to watch
Blake DeWitt play baseball.
DeWitt
is Babe Ruth compared to this clown.
No downside either.

He's probably just to fill out Iowa's roster
We traded LeMahieu and Flaherty went Rule 5. Bobby Scales is in Japan. Someone needs to be Iowa’s second baseman.

I would've preferred Tejada
BTW, is anybody else concerned that we didn’t sign Woody by today? Thought we would’ve gotten an announcement.

Kerry's number
is larger than the one Theo wants to pay. My guess.
10-25-2011. Theo Epstein joins the Cubs. Now, the fun begins.
Probably.
The question is, does he want 3.5, 4 from Philly or 3, 3.5 from us? And what exactly is the difference? The longer this drags on, the more I think he’s pitching in Philly this year.

I'm a bit surprised, yeah.
Kinda kills the theory that Woody and Theo & Jed were delaying the signing to drum up interest in Cubs Convention.

Or maybe they just want to announce it at the convention to offset all the questions about how bad this team is gonna be.
DUMP GARZA. CORRECT THE COSMIC WRONG.
I still want them...
…to actually do the contract signing at the convention. That would be cool.

Kerry should show up for an autograph session
And then have Theo be the first one there with contract in hand. Then everyone would go wild and we’d all talk about how dumb that was.

Actually, in watching the Cubs Convention Opening Ceremonies right now
I thought it would be hysterical if they introduced Wood when they brought out all the former Cubs and the crowd got all pissed off about the distinction.

I don't know.
It could be a cute gimmick, but it seems a little over the top cheesy. It could do much to take people’s minds off Castro though.

Just scanning that, I thought it said we signed Antonio Alfonseca.
That was scary.

A minor league deal?
No problem. If he sucks in spring training, you just cut him.
He might wind up as insurance at Iowa.

Favorite Alfredo Amezaga Fun Fact
The Anaheim Angels took him in the 13th round with the 401st pick of the 1999 draft. The St. Louis Cardinals, with the next pick, took Albert Pujols.
We got Amezaga now.
Guess everything’s right with the world since the Cardinals have neither (never mind the 2 WS titles).
