How I envisioned the revamped right field section.

My lame attempt at photoshop .:)

BTW : anyone notice the Cubs rendering had Dempster as the pitcher ... with a fan trying to pull a just hit home run ball out of the basket with a ball cup ... lol

I like it, hope it doesnt distract.

Distraction is my biggest worry about this.

That looks better.

I’m warming up to the idea.

My question is....

…..are there going to be the same amount of rows in the bleachers?

I guess I can’t tell, but is the top part of the original rendering just the patch of concrete where the beer vendors/people hanging out are (and can’t see the field) or is it the actual “top” of a taller addition to the section?

Hard to tell from the angle it’s rendered….and what looks like not filling in the bleachers completely with fans.

in the main page thread
The current six rows will become three, and the board replaces some of the bottom rows, some of which had obstructed view seats.

So 3 rows of actual seating/viewing area and a patio with standing room/elbow bar?

This is fantastic

If nothing else, the board can help the casual Cubs fan know who’s pinch hitting or coming in relief. I know most of us on here are very much aware of the 25 man roster but the reality is that most people at Wrigley are not as big of fans.

Plus it doesn’t seem that intrusive and should hopefully bring in a bit of revenue as well.

No not improved

My first effort was an improvement on the first cartoon drawing .. I scrapped it and went with this one :)

I still don’t understand the need for a LED board. A video board is nice when you can see a quick replay of a great catch or a home run , notice I didn’t say close play because those are not allowed to be shown , but other than that what else stat wise do you need. . AK123 writes , "can help the casual Cubs fan know who’s pinch hitting or coming in relief " but that is shown on the center board .

It is for advertising dollars period. I wish the Cubs would just say that instead of claiming it is improving the fan experience . Want a rooftop feel with free food and drink go to the rooftops. Want to feel like your on the Green Monster …. go to Fenway.

Someone else asked on here maybe in the other thread , but by my count there are just over 300 seats not including handicap on the back walkway. 53 seats x 6 rows . It appears as if there will the same back walkway with 2 rows of 53 plus room for another 50 or so to walk up to the railing on another patio area in front of the two rows . So that would equal space for 150 mentioned by Al.

by BALLHAWK.NET on Jan 16, 2012 6:42 AM CST reply actions

Yes, it's for advertising.

But it will also have information that isn’t otherwise available in the ballpark. I don’t have a problem with that.

They are having 3 rows of seats plus SRO, so it's more than 150.

Also, the scoreboard is good for people that know players numbers and understand how to follow it, this LED board will be nice for casual fans. It offers pictures, more detailed stats, etc that simply are not an option on the old scoreboard.

I wasn’t clamoring for something like this, and it’s clear that they see it as another advertising option, which is also very important, but I think they’re being sincere when they say it’s more than JUST advertising. I don’t care if you call that thing the “Old Style LED Board with LED lights sponsored by Samsung” if it brings us in another million or two per year.

by bdlugz on Jan 16, 2012 8:24 AM CST up reply actions

Advertising $ good , more info good , but

I’m still trying to figure out what stats the casual fan are missing out on that the Cubs can’t put on the 10 × 70 LED in center field .

by BALLHAWK.NET on Jan 16, 2012 9:15 AM CST reply actions

Pitch speed.

Pitch counts. Errors. More detailed individual stats.

Maybe they could even post lineups there. What a concept.

BTW, I don’t believe the CF message board is 10 feet high.

The drawing that they released doesn't do a good job of showing what this is actually going to look like.

I’m going to reserve judgement till I see either a better rendering or the actual structure.

I’m really hoping that Al or someone else that posts here regularly will be able to get access to take pictures and post the here.
