Will the LED board happen? City Might Need to Approve
the article seems to state that they do and dont need approval. Seems there might be a LED-gate for Jessica to follow.

It doesn't appear to me that this board needs approval.
It doesn’t change any of the landmarked features — appears the Cubs are going through the process just to make sure.

Good grief.
Seems like a bigger hassle than what it needs to be.

It must be a money maker if Chicago Politicians want to weigh in on it.

Looks like Ricketts just keeping relationships smooth
Because some major renovation plans are in-store for the future.
Landmark Committee is not the “City.” The city will get there share on all of the construction permits needed to do the work.

Approval or not
the seats have all been removed already .
He's right.

Yarrr! I can see me seats too!
I am wondering how they’re going to incorporate a 10 foot high LED screen, 3 rows of rising seating, and then a party deck without going up and/or WAY over the street.

Because the 10 foot LED board
… replaces the first 3 rows of seats.
And, the aisle behind those is quite wide. Plenty of room for what’s pictured in the rendering. No height or width changes needed.

Thats awesome
Where is that for the webcam? I only know of the one that Cubworld has on their site

It's under

WOW!
This seems as though it will change the outfield dimensions if there’s no basket, no? When was the last time that happened?
The most dramatic off season in my lifetime continues! New title of president of baseball operations, gm, manager, coaches, “former” 1st round draft choices, Cubs-owned corners of Clark and Addison, concrete in section 229 (or Club 229, as I like to think), and now new outfield dimensions? HFS!

If they do take the basket off...
…. it would only change the dimensions if you have to hit it ABOVE the LED board.
And even then, it’s just the height that changes, by a few feet. The distance of the wall from the plate is still the same.

Yeah, few feet here, few feet there. What's another couple inches in a game like baseball?
Is/was Wrigley the only field in MLB that has/had an outfield wall that is the same height from pole to pole?

Yeah, lazy research on my part. Sorry.
A simple Wikipedia search shows me I was wrong in my previous thinking- the current height of the wall at Wrigley already varies- 15ft in the corners, 11.5 in the bleachers. Still, this may well change the field dimensions, and I find that pretty cool.

If the rendering is correct
The basket remains, so it’s still considered a HR if the ball is launched above the basket, or does it have to clear the LED screen?

Good question.
I thought I read TR saying the basket would stay, but I could just be making that up.

I also heard them say the basket would stay.

So basket still = HR
When first saw the rendering I didn’t quite see that, so I thought clearing the LED board was the new ground rule. Woulda been bad for our new power lefty dead pull hitter.

My guess is
… that they put a net or something over the LED board to protect it — so any HR off it would probably bounce either into the basket or over it back on to the field.
That’s what they have replay for. :)

I would see no reason
to leave the basket .
I like the basket better than a yellow line
It makes the home run calls easier.

Except when a HR bounces out of the basket.
That happened on a Barry Bonds HR once when i was there. Hit in exactly the right spot where it looked like the ball just hit the wall and bounced back, looked like a double initially.
I'll take that chance
Most Home Runs where the basket is “in play” either hit the basket and then the wall, or the wall and then the basket.

The new replay system would take care of events like that.

Oh wow.
I want one of those. This is going on the “when the house is paid off and the kids get out of college” list. Have to save this link for when that ever happens.

I read it as...
As as said, Cubs are going through the process even though they don’t need to do so.
It’s a shame that Alderman have to be involved in this. Landmark status is more trouble than it’s worth (and what is it actually worth?) IMHO.
If the basket does stay....
How long before some drunk falls off the patio and into the basket ( and on Sportscenter for the next three years…)? I’ll put the over/under at June 3rd….

If the patio actually is on the slope that it looks like from the drawing,
I’d say under.

All of a sudden the Green Monster seats look dwarfed in size.

If they did something like that, and it was structurally sound...
IT’D BE FREAKING AWESOME!!!
