Should be an interesting couple weeks ...
Where have you gone, Kiko Calero. A nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
Give me both.

They'll sign neither...
I think the monetary issues of this franchise have been far underestimated. I hope I’m wrong but….
I don't think money is the problem.
I think its just that the Cubs know that they shouldn’t spend on something that isn’t going to be good for many years.
Why would Theo sign here if they were having serious financial issues
and why would Ricketts shell out all that money?
Injuries. Fuck.

Yea i disagree. i think they just actually have a plan
as opposed to the previous regime where its throw money at every free agent. i think the primary reason they have been cautious on who they spend money on this off season is because these are the guys they wanted to go after.
And another joins the tinfoil crowd.
Theo and Jed came here to run Pittsburgh – West or Kansas City – East take your pick. That makes lots of sense to me.
John Grabow - Who will pay you $4.8 million in 2012?
25-30% of Fielder's money
To get Cespedes. This is what TheoJed have been waiting for. An economical, smart way to rebuild this team. The Cubs aren’t in financial trouble. They’re just refraining from being stupidly extravagant.

In 5 years I hope Rizzo is the players Prince is today. The ages would match up.
"Hey.....Cubs win!!!" ---Harry
"Cubs win....what a lucky break!!" ---Harry
so if the Cubs get Soler are they paying him high(relative) amounts of dollars
to play single A baseball?
So i you can give you can take it.
excellent point....
i see him in the $15-$20 mil range, which i think has been the reports. Cespedes who knows with the Marlins “no one will out bid us” bs.
he will be riding on his private bus
behind the team bus

so 4 -5 mil to hang out in the minors and then when he's ready
he gets another contract worth twice+ his original contract?
So i you can give you can take it.
no clue how it works. maybe he only gets x while he's in the majors
and doesnt start making y until he gets to the big league club. truly no clue. just spit ballin here
It would depend entirely on how they construct the contract.
If you assume it would be a major league deal (rather than a signing bonus and a minor league deal), then it would probably end up a lot like Shark’s deal.
He signed a 5 year $10.25M deal with two club options.
The Cubs declined the first of those options, but still retain his rights because of service time and its ties to the arbitration process.
So, Soler could sign something similar… say 5 year $20M (no idea on the numbers, just guessing) with two club options. Let’s say he spends three years in the minors (reasonable since he’s 19). He’d spend his first two years in the big leagues (and perhaps two more) on the original contract, but he wouldn’t be able to just double up his salary if the club declined the options.
