What???
Will Rizzo be Theo compensation or will he be the starter while Cespedes spends time in AAA (highly unlikely)?
Will they try to move Cespedes to the OF to replace/trade Soriano?
Fokudome

I don’t know anything about this guy. What’s going to happen with him? Is Cespedes going to be another Fokudome? Is Cespedes going to make the major league team? If so, where’s he going to play?

There is no way in hell Rizzo is compensation for Theo
it will probrably be some avg prospect that no one really cares about and cash.
i don’t know what you mean “try and move Cespedes to the OF”….he’s a natural CF, so he’s going to play the OF. and i think he will be replacing Byrd.
No one knows if he will be a bust…how could we? its Fukudome. with a u.
McCleod said he would think he should have 100 ABs in the minors, but if he plays well in spring training, at 26, he should break camp with the mlb.

I think it was more like he didn't understand your brainstorming. First off, there is no way
Rizzo will not be compensation. He was brought in to play, and he wasn’t even on the team when the Theo “transaction” occurred. I also think this site is flooded with Cespedes posts. I understand wanting to keep the off season rolling, but just look at one of the fifty posts, and you can find all types of speculation on here.
He will be a minor leaguer most likely, but for the $ he is looking for, it would be hard to keep him down there, think of A. Chapman from the Reds. I think he was down there for most of his first year, and he had a much better chance of sticking with a 103mph fastball.

Heaven forbid
Rizzo is compensation. I think we wait and see if the Cubs sign anyone of these Cubans first then go from there. Theo has had a pretty good track record with the Cubs so far of making moves without strong intel.

if anyone expected Cespedes to be the next Fukudome would there be as much interest in him as there is? No one knows for sure.
I’m a little leery of him but really want them to look hard at Soler over Cespedes.

We see him in the gym. A lot. Then we see a few swings. Then more gym. Then some showboat catches. Then the gym. If I recall correctly, it opens with a Star Wars-esque theme.

As far as compensation...
…give ‘em Campana. That way the Cubs don’t make the mistake of allowing him to break camp on the 25 man roster.
by Easy Ed on Jan 26, 2012 1:47 PM CST reply actions 1 recs
Big IF...
…That’s not the “Jaramillo way”. If he could pinch run every inning he’d be great…he can’t, so he’s not very useful…especially if that Cuban gets signed and makes the team.
by Easy Ed on Jan 26, 2012 1:57 PM CST reply actions 1 recs
I'm aware of Campana's projected statistical failings...
…but he seems awfully useful in late & close game situations.

"Awfully useful" how?
He can’t hit. Defense is meh. He certainly can’t throw. He’s useful in a PR situation only…that’s it. Is that worth a roster spot?
by Easy Ed on Jan 26, 2012 2:57 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
Just for the sake of argument...
…how many one-run games do you want to win this year? Something tells me Campana could sway the team’s success in that area by virtue of his pinch running alone. Maybe that’s insane, but the kid is as close to a lock to being able to steal second and score on a single as anyone in baseball. I’m not saying I’d guarantee him a bench spot, but I’d certainly give it a try.

Cespedes and Campana have nothing to do with each other.
Cespedes isn’t being signed to be a backup. Campana’s competition is strictly Dave Sappelt, one is joining Reed on the bench.
