Lou Piniella's Mother Dies At 92
Via the Tampa Bay Times. One of the reasons Lou gave for retiring when he did, was to help care for his mother and spend more time with her. Glad he got a chance to do that.

Sounds like Lou is a chip off the old block
She famously once ran onto the court during one of Lou’s Jesuit High basketball games to argue with the referee.
Condolences, Lou.
"Wait, are you saying I'm a sunshine-pumping, koolaid-drinking, Soriano-loving, rainbow-rising, unicorn-riding, double-clutching, Sweet Lou-backing, Hendry-supporting, hey hey whaddya saying, Cubs are going all the waying, glass is overflowing, Rothschild is all-knowing, Cubs fan? - ballhawk
Well...
he got to spend a little less than a year and a half with her and I’m not sure how much of his decision was based on guilt from being too busy/obligated during the baseball portion of the calendar to see her for decades (her birthday sometime between Feb-Sept?). Weigh it against the remainder of the Cubs’ 2010 season and the Cubs 2011 season. No contest, he made the right decision. Cubs weren’t going anywhere and whatever he gained from that wouldn’t have given him the peace of mind and memories/experiences he had by doing this.
Go Lou Go! Go Lou Go! Hey Chicago what do you say, Lou got to spend time with his mom today. (applied to about 190~200 Cubs games he could’ve been at had he stayed)
What the hell is this?

Really sad news and all the best Lou
If the Cubs still have a chance, no matter how small, it’s still Go Cubs, damn the math and pass the KoolAid. I'm a Sheeple and proud of it!
