Maybe they'll have to compete for a spot?

of the Dodgers-Giants rivalry! Bigtime winner!

SF has really given up on offense.

Maybe they wanted his power ability.

Buster Olney tweeted this a few days ago:

Don’t be surprised if the Phillies look to add a utility man who can add a little more pop than Wilson Valdez—somebody like Ryan Theriot.

What? Maybe he’s got more pop than Valdez, but c’mon, Theriot doesn’t hit hardly anything hard.

by varrys on Jan 27, 2012 11:36 AM CST reply actions

What makes Olney's tweet even funnier is this:

Valdez’s career SLG: .330

Theriot’s career SLG: .353

It would have literally been a “little more pop.”

McCovey Cove!

His power to right field should put 30-40 homers a year into the bay. They must be so psyched.

Future naming rights

They can rename a small area of grass between the second baseman and the right fielder “The Riot Patch”.

The greatest thing about that video

Is that it goes for 3:30 and doesn’t include a single baserunning gaffe. This is begging to be made into a trilogy.

Riot obviously has high standards,

playing only for classic, old-line NL franchises. Wouldn’t surprise me to hear he turned down a three-year deal from the Marlins.

yeah

back with fontenot.and they both have world series rings.and they had to leave the cubs to get them.

by NOMAR on Jan 29, 2012 7:05 AM CST reply actions

Agree

I don’t understand the intense hatred he seems to generate. He made a correct comment about the right side of the rivalry and many people got all in hissy fit. How many of those same people loved it when “The Riot” was starting for the Cubs?

He has always been the same player. He is a limited skill player who always projected as a utility player.

by rlpete on Jan 29, 2012 10:34 AM CST up reply actions

Some people were okay with him as a league minimum player to fill a need...

No one LIKED him as the starting SS, and no one except for Theriot thought he was worth anything close to 3M. We all knew he had a terrible arm, bad baserunning skills and an average at best slap hitting bat.

Of course there were some people who become obsessed over some ridiculous players (Jake Fox, Theriot, etc), but they do not in any way speak for the majority of Cubs fans on this board. The arb hearing and stupid comments by Theriot took him from a, “meh, don’t really care about him,” to what he is today.
