My excuse is I have a torn mensicus and stress fracture in my right knee and will have arthroscopic surgery this coming Thursday.

Would have been fun.

Someday.

And isn’t Chelios kind of a ringer? He’s a former professional athlete.

Wouldn't be a bad

honorary Cub.

10-25-2011. Theo Epstein joins the Cubs. Now, the fun begins.

by timh815 on Jan 28, 2012 3:51 PM CST up reply actions

Possibly might be a ringer....

….. then again, it’s a different sport, so who knows? Michael Jordan couldn’t hit a curve.

What impresses me is he appears to be a catcher. I did that for one morning session and my knees were screaming. After all his years on the ice, if his knees can withstand two games a day for 5 days, then he’s in realllllly good shape.

I’ll tell you what though, Vedder isn’t any slouch either. He’s got what passes for speed in a Hundley camp, and can cover ground in the outfield.

Chicago. Enough said.

exactly

hockey and bobsledding doesnt mean that he can play baseball

I'd love to do this.

Someday. Soon, before I get completely out of shape.

Hitting a curve wasn't the only thing Michael Jordan couldn't do

He couldn’t throw at all. His arm was less than worthless. Juan Pierre, Ben Grieve, Barry Soetero, and Johnny Damon all have better arms than MJ.

I enjoy this website because it's so interesting to see folks pole vaulting over mouse turds.

Are hoax believers a political group?

Sorry, I don’t want to start a political debate either and I know the usual rules, but still I had to point out that the particular name he uses originates from an April Fool’s joke that was quickly debunked:

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/was-obama-born-in-the-usa/

People who nevertheless believe that story aren’t really being political; they’re being both gullible (falling for the hoax in the first place), and delusional (wanting to still believe the hoax is true even after it was exposed as such).

Still, one part of the comment does ring true – the president’s pitch velocity leaves a lot to be desired: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxZfxcEQM2k

Chelios and Vedder

are very good friends. Hell, Chelios played hockey until he was 48. He was an elite D-Man in his days, winning the Norris 3 times.

From what I understand and having passed the eye test Chelios is in very good physical shape, so I do believe that he could play baseball since he’s still a competitive player in hockey.

by Cubbie-Tim on Jan 28, 2012 7:16 PM CST up reply actions

Chelios was good

He didn’t stand out from any of the other good players though. He caught til Wednesday then hurt his knee, took Thursday off and fed the pitching machine on Friday. Eddie was great in the outfield against us and plunked a few singles. John Cusack didn’t show up until Wednesday and did pretty good for being a couple of days behind everybody. I did get to shake Theo’s hand one day. Ryan Dempster was around a few days too. Very classy individual.

It was fantastic.

He said he felt like he was 12 again. He was catcher and caught for every game until the very last one (he got hurt towards the end of the 2nd to the last game). At one point he caught 4 games in 24 hours because they had two night games followed by two day games and two of those games went into extra innings. Considering he hasn’t played since he was 15, I was amazed at his endurance. That last game that he missed was for the championship, so it was absolutely killing him to be on the bench. His team did win the Championship in what was sort of a war of attrition. By the end everyone looked to be limping or exhausted in some way or other.

There was an upside to his being carted off by the trainer, besides that it ended up not being serious. Just a calf strain from running the bases. When he was in the training room he saw Tony Campana there. He asked him to sign his cap. While he was signing it, he said “I was trying to run the bases like you. That’s why I’m in here.”

I will probably write a fanpost, but I’d be uncomfortable posting most of the coolest stuff because it was really off the record. Sorry guys, but you aren’t going to find out anything Fergie said when he drove my husband to the park (!!!) or when we sat at the bar talking to Keith Moreland. It was unbelievable how accessible the coaches and players were.

Or, on a more positive note...

…give it to a pitcher. Marmol could be called “auto-strikeout” when his slider is on and he can hit the strike zone. Too bad that’s quite as often as it used to be.

With Chris Chelios blocking the plate

Do not try to blow up the catcher. Just don’t, and you’ll get to keep all your teeth.

Vedder is short enough to begin with

standing next to Theo and Chelios doesn’t help that impression.

Yeah, I never would've guessed...

…Vedder is shorter than Theo. Then again, I’ve never seen either of them in person.
