David Bell New Cubs 3B Coach; Cubs Announce Other Moves

The Cubs also gave assistant general manager Randy Bush a contract extension, and took the "interim" tag off James Rowson as hitting coach.

The Cubs announced some moves on the coaching staff Tuesday. Actually, one of them isn't a "move" so much as an extension:

It's really hard to tell whether James Rowson's presence had any impact at all on the Cubs, given the transitory nature of the roster for most of the second half. But management apparently thought he was good enough to keep around for at least another year.

David Bell, who played 12 major-league seasons with the Phillies, Cardinals, Mariners, Indians, Giants and Brewers, was the Reds' Triple-A manager in 2012. He's 40 years old and has no known connection to anyone in the Cubs organization; he's also the son of former major leaguer Buddy Bell and grandson of former major leaguer Gus Bell.

Also, the Cubs ended any speculation about assistant GM Randy Bush leaving:

That solidifies the baseball management team through almost the end of Theo and Jed's contracts.

Have at it.
