Your 2013 Chicago Cubs

I regret to admit that I haven't been watching any playoff games. I deleted every baseball link on my iphone on October 3rd. So... Why do I find myself typing "Bleed Cubbie Blue" into the search field? Because that's what I do. All I think about at this point in time... is the next moves by Jed and Theo.

We all know what's coming. Losses. Building. But we do entertain thoughts of success, of surprise, of magic in 2013. Things happen. We have seen it many times. What is your recipe for a snowball in hell next season?

I will start. Despite the obvious knowledge that free agents are not the way to go, it's really all we have to look at. We lack any major trading chips this winter. Everybody knows that. Well, here is my idea:

Victorino in center field. Youkilis at third. Both hopefully on two-year deals. Victorino is still an exciting player, offensively and defensively, and we need a smart hitter at the top of the order along with DDJ. Youk... Good, patient hitter with pop. This is a bridge year, after all, and we need bridge players. But will they come?

I would also sign Anibal Sanchez, and one lefty, either Marcum or Saunders, on a Maholm-style deal, so we can flip him mid-season.

If the stars align, something might happen. This season we saw some great starting pitching at times in the first half. Our offense was generally abysmal until Rizzo came to help. The Flyin Hawaiian and Youk would give us a smarter, more patient lineup. It couldn't hurt, eh?
