SBN Awards: Pitcher Of The Year

Marc Serota

The N.L. voting was close, but you can see the winner depicted above.

Our SB Nation awards week continues with our Pitcher of the Year award, essentially the equivalent of the BBWAA's Cy Young Award.

The National League vote, which we voted for here at BCB, was extremely close. R.A. Dickey of the Mets is the winner, with three more points than the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw. Both pitchers had excellent seasons and either one could have been a worthy winner.

The BCB ballots were as follows:

Al: Dickey, Kershaw, Johnny Cueto, Gio Gonzalez, Kris Medlen
Mike: Dickey, Kershaw, Johnny Cueto, Gio Gonzalez, Craig Kimbrel

Almost complete agreement, except for a different Braves pitcher in fifth place. Truth be told, almost any of the top four could have come in first through fourth; as you can see in the voting table, votes were split on all four of them.

For the American League, Justin Verlander actually had a 2012 season pretty close to his 2011 year, except without the gaudy total of 24 wins. He wins easily over David Price, with quite a few other pitchers receiving votes. Here are all the vote tabulations; points are awarded in this balloting on a 7-4-3-2-1 basis.
