Just saw this and I find it interesting. He says the Red Sox and the Cubs are the two teams trying to pull off a trade before tonight's free agent deadline.
Haren's remaining year is at $15.5 million so this would IMO be a major move. Could be a sign that the Cubs are looking to the future by improving the staff starting next year, or, Haren could probably be flipped at the trading deadline.
If this would happen, it makes a LOT more sense to me than the Royals acquiring Ervin Santana who is coming off of a horrible season and paying him north of $13 million next year.
Haren has had some back issues but he's also proven himself (at least in the past) to a TOR type starter.
So, would a trade for Haren make sense for the Cubs?
I'd like to see it.
