Rob Grabowski-US PRESSWIRE

Needing to open a a spot on the 40 man roster, pitcher Casey Coleman was designated for assignment.

In order to make room for Scott Feldman on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated Casey Coleman for assignment, per a tweet from Carrie Muskat. (h/t MLB rumors)

Coleman has pitched parts of the past three seasons for the Cubs. He was decent in 2010 with a 4.11 ERA in 57 innings, but hasn't been able to repeat that in 2011 or 2012. Last year he made 17 appearances, all but one out of the bullpen, and had a 7.40 ERA over 24.1 innings.

Coleman will now have to clear waivers and if he does, he will have the option of becoming a free agent or reporting to Iowa. So his Cubs career may not be over quite yet.

Here's a fresh start from the Feldman signing thread. Have at it.
