Famed Wrigley Peanut Vendor Dies
I purchased many peanuts from Jerry over the years. He was a great guy, always quick with a story and a smile. RIP fellow Cubs fan, Jerry Manos.

Rest in Peace
Sounds like a man who lived life on his own terms.

Sorry to hear this.
I bought peanuts from this guy fairly often. Had no idea about his life story. Indeed, sounds like a man who truly enjoyed living.

“Peanut vendor Jerry” as we called him on the street, was indeed a great guy. As tville said, always quick with a story and a smile. And doing what he did for as long as he did, he had plenty of stories to tell. Too bad the commercialization/expansion of the rooftops put him out of business, but he still came by the park though his visits grew less and less frequent. Last time I saw him was either last season or in 2010. Still as talkative as ever, though his step had slowed a bit.
RIP Jerry. Give Ronnie a bag of peanuts; put it on my tab…

Anyone find an obituary for Jerry?
Loved Jerry, loved seeing him in the (former) parking lot just north of Sports Corner every game, in every kind of weather. I poked around a bit looking for an obituary, but couldn’t find any. If anyone came across one, please post a link. If the family suggested a donation to any charity, would be very happy to give in his name.
One great neighborhood character, that I always held out hope might pop up again for one last season after he was forced into retirement.
RIP Jerry.

Here you go - found it in the Tribune's Obit section

And here’s the part on where you can make a donation:
Contributions can be made in Jerry’s memory to Connections for the Homeless, 2010 Dewey Avenue Evanston, IL 60201-3098, www.cfthinc.org.

Thanks very much
Just saw your reply, good to know.
I’ll look at the calendar and figure out a post-game in April to do a wake for him at the bar to benefit Connections. Just a heck of a guy.
