Fukudome Signs With White Sox
MLBTR, the only source of this so far. He won't have to give up the condo he bought in Chicago.

Short piece I wrote on this signing for Baseball Nation

I LOL'd at this, Al.
Fukudome will be 35 in April and his best days, whatever those were, are clearly behind him. Hahn’s statement indicates that Fukudome will be a fourth or fifth outfielder; his career line against RHP (.262/.368/.407) shows that he could, as Hahn says, be useful in certain matchups.

No question.

Note to elgato:
Kosuke now needs a ride from the airport.

I don't see elgato commenting in here.
He must be headed to the airport right now to pick up Kosuke.

Ah, Kosuke, my old friend ...
do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold?
It is very cold on the South Side!

No, but he's on the right side of the BP Cup.

Yep. The dry side.

I am out of town.
However, I would gladly pick him up and drive him to 35th and Shields, if I were around.

Pay cut
He went from $12 mil/yr to $1 mil/yr. That is a 91.3% pay cut. Ouch!
Actually, according to Baseball Reference...
…he earned $14.5 million in 2011 ($3.9 million paid by Cubs) and, per that MLBTR post, his 2012 salary will be only $500,000. So he’s only down a cool $14 million this year.
"[The Cubs] have a very famous tradition in baseball, and it will be nice to be part of turning it around." ~ Jamie Quirk, Bench Coach
Cubs paid him a whole heck of a lot more than $3.9mm last year.
The Cubs paid all of his $14.5mm except $775k.
At the time of the trade, he was owed about $4.7mm. Maybe that’s when we sent the $3.9mm.

I think that's correct.

Yeah, that didn't sound quite right to me either.
I probably shouldn’t use B-R’s salary info, but it’s so much easier to access and digest than Cot’s.

good signing
for the Sox on the cheap. He is worth every penny of that. Nice 4th OF / bench guy to have.
Woohoo!
He’s worth every penny of $500,000! Boy am I glad we paid him $48 million over the past four years.

It's almost like Kenny Williams is mocking us.

Kenny Williams should kiss the ground Jim Hendry walks on regarding Kosuke.
Kenny was one of the teams willing to overpay on Kosuke. Had he done that — in tandem with the other boondoggle contracts — I bet he would have been showed the door this offseason.

Kinda funny that Hahn templates him in at CF
“Kosuke adds to our outfield depth and gives Robin another left-handed bat to mix into the lineup based on matchups,” said Rick Hahn, White Sox vice president/assistant general manager. “He can play center field and right and provides flexibility to our roster.”
considering just how bad his stats there had gotten with the Cubs.

Wow, block quote fail.
"Kosuke adds to our outfield depth and gives Robin another left-handed bat to mix into the lineup based on matchups," said Rick Hahn, White Sox vice president/assistant general manager. "He can play center field and right and provides flexibility to our roster."
He can play center?
Heh.
He can barely play right.
He couldnt play center 3 years ago.

This is a team that put Adam Dunn in right last year.

For 14 innings.
With a different manager.
"Many people need desperately to receive this message: 'I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.'"
I don't get why he wouldn't say...
…Kosuke can play all three outfield spots. Not that I’d put him in center; but if he can play right field, he could certainly play left.

I would have bitched FAR LESS about him if he would have been making
even 3-4 milllion.

Zambrano goes to the Marlins
Aramis goes to the Brewers
Pena goes (back) to the Rays
The times, they are not staying like they used to be.

Thanks Dusty. So sad watching Chad walk off the field hurt. I hated that moment.

And DLee may be shuffling off to retirement.
It’s nice to be moving on, I guess – even if the future is pretty uncertain at this point.

AND ...
the Cubs are (reportedly) willing to eat 80 percent of Soriano’s remaining money to move him.
AND … John Grabow is with the Dodgers … on a minor league deal.
AND … Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot are reunited by the Bay.

but on a less happy note

D-Lee
You’d think some MLB team would sign him for the MLB minimum. I think he’s got a little left in the tank, even if he’s not what he was in 2009.
Good things come to those who wait... and wait....and wait.
I'm sure some team would be happy to do that.
But it appears he wants more $. Sounds like Jermaine Dye, Part Deux.

Yeah, the MLB Network guys...
…were also speculating that he only wants to play for a contender. And I guess none of those teams really need a first baseman.
"[The Cubs] have a very famous tradition in baseball, and it will be nice to be part of turning it around." ~ Jamie Quirk, Bench Coach
Hope D-Lee Doesn't Have Delusions of Grandeur
It seems as if D-Lee could mentor Kila Ka’aihue in Oakland. The A’s are in the American League, so D-Lee could DH. I believe D-Lee is beyond the point, in which he can be a productive everyday player.
I don’t see why D-Lee couldn’t be a part-time DH/1B/PH with the A’s. Oakland isn’t too far away from his home. Maybe, D-Lee would react to mentoring Ka’aihue in the same manner that Mark Grace reacted to mentoring Hee Seop Choi. I would hope not, but that may be the problem. In addition to that, Oakland doesn’t figure to be a contender in 2012 in the AL West. that’s another problem. I would like to see D-Lee continue his career.
Good things come to those who wait... and wait....and wait.
Hm, yeah.
That does sound like it would be a decent fit…unless he really doesn’t want to accept that kind of role.
