Sweet Lou Says YES
Former Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella will be a special contributor to the Yankees Entertainment & Sports (YES) Network for the 2012 season.
I know I'll be using my MLB At Bat app to tune in to a few Yankees games to check out Sweet Lou's broadcast stylings. I didn't pay too much attention to him during his brief stint with Fox (?) before managing the Cubs. Oh, and remember, every time he says "Look...," you have to drink.

He was awful the one year he was an analyst on Fox in 2006.
I can’t imagine six years away from broadcasting have made him any better.

So it was Fox...wasn't sure.
Yeah, I can’t imagine him being particularly listenable. But I do wonder whether he’ll reel off any good Cubs anecdotes.
"[The Cubs] have a very famous tradition in baseball, and it will be nice to be part of turning it around." ~ Jamie Quirk, Bench Coach
I don't know if it makes a difference but...
Since Lou used to play for the Yankees, he might be a little less awful than when he was with FOX. Given that he doesn’t have to broadcast from a neutral perspective on both teams. Now we will get to see him broadcast being in favor of particularly one team, but still be a critical analyst if the Yankees are playing poorly (as if that ever happens).
So broadcasting for a team and agianst the other instead of a neutral position might make Lou a little less awful, but still within the neighborhood of awful. The only way to find out is when he’s actually broadcasting this year.

It wasn't the perspective that was the problem.
It was the cadence of his voice and the insight. Both mediocre to bad.

It's true what they say...
…once you don a Yankee uniform, you’re a Yankee for life…in one capacity or another. Glad I don’t have to listen to him. His 5 minute post-game interviews with the Cubs were brutal to listen to. Now the Yankees are gonna pay him to talk? Better them than us.
As Bobby V leaves Stamford for Boston
Lou comes to town (YES Network’s studio is actually in Stamford CT).
