Starlin Castro: 'I'm Ready To Play Baseball'
From Carrie Muskat's blog. Castro was asked what he's learned from the experience of being accused of sexual assault:
"That you have to be careful because there are a lot of bad people in the world," he said.

nice writing
The shortstop met with Cubs manager Dale Sveum and talked about how the season, not the offseason.
how the season what?
You know, how the SEASON!!!
Look, it’s hard work being the official mouthpiece of the Cubs, she can’t be expected to proofread too.

How the season...
is going to be what most Cubs fans probably think of the season.
Suspenseful disbelief? Either positive or negative
Suspenseful amazement?
Suspenseful disgust?
Or the pause before cracking up at the absurdity of it? I had that with Quade. Quade’s time was a fun bad in the way B-movies are a fun bad. Sometimes you just have to laugh as Quade ‘manages’ and Marmol helps secure a win for the other team for the nth time.
Or it’s like the Castle of… Aarrrrrrrrgh from Monty Python.

that's all he learned?
nothing about avoiding taking two women who you don’t know home at 2 in the morning?
Learning to avoid situations that end up like that
is probably the best lesson he can learn. Knowing is half the battle. I guess GI Joe cartoon PSAs didn’t air in the Dominican Republic…

I wonder if Castro has called Ryan Braun this AM
And asked for the telephone number for the attorneys he used in his PED case.
Unless he ends up being charged...
Braun’s going to be the bigger villain for fans of any team at Cubs-Brewers games. The evidence proved Braun used PEDs, he didn’t challenge the findings, the authenticity of the sample, the seals, but pulled a legal ace/rabbit out of the hole. So far, the police haven’t acted on whatever evidence or lack thereof there is in Castro’s case. He may end up being charged, but the more time goes on, the less likely it becomes.

… which I had not seen anywhere else.

Maybe this is a dumb question...
…but is it safe to assume that Castro won’t be charged with a crime? It’s been over a month since he was interviewed by the police, and every article about him lately uses the “new new developments” language. Is there a typical time frame in which charges would be filed in a case like this?

what 'new new developments' do you speak of????

I don't think he is out of the clear yet
The Police/AD have not announced that charges will/will not be filed. And they wouldn’t until they were positive that they could arrest Castro – in Chicago or AZ. No way they announced charges while he was in the D.R.

My guess is

I agree
It does appear to be leaning that way. But this is really the first chance to announce charges.

That's only a guess
of course, and if so, will rapidly be replaced by civil suits.
and if Castro is smart
He’ll know to lay low off the field and avoid potential future controversy. Kobe Bryant seemed to lay low after that incident in the hotel and after he bribed his wife with that drachenfutter diamond ring, let the scandal blow over and lo and behold, he only gets mentioned in Lakers stories, not the tabloids. Image rehab can be done like that, not if someone keeps getting in trouble or in gray zone circumstances over and over.

I've heard stories...
where charges are brought months after. The odds are certainly lower as time goes on, but they could be awaiting tests, more witnesses, etc. I would say its unlikely but not unheard of.
Was he ever charged?

Will Cassie be charged with a crime after CPD concludes its investigation???? “Innocent until proven guilty” means they cannot charge people with a crime until law enforcement has PROOF a crime has been committed — Cassie’s reputation is fucked no matter what!

Not a lawyer, but I believe the concept of “innocent until proven guilty” applies to the criminal process all the way through to the end of the trial when a judgement is rendered by either a judge or a jury. Evidence can be gathered by police, but “proof” is a bit more subjective.
Even if he’s charged with whatever in the coming days, you can still assume innocence… or not if you prefer, for the court of public opinion has no such rules.

I'm gettin' there.
It’s a great team-building exercise for the players. And I’m sure the beat writers love it because it gives them something to write (and tweet) about other than the endless “best shape of my life” spring training cliches. But, seriously, is there anything more boring than bunting practice?

This entire depressing organization has spent DECADES both ignoring basic fundamentals AND failing to promote/instill them in their players…and you’re BORED with a bunting tournament?
I’m standing on my chair pumping my fist over the fact that we have a manager that would even suggest some of the players on the roster could maybe use bunting practice.

I love Soriano's quote

Does anyone else see Soriano picking his nose?
Since we don't know the truth in this case could it be that he was simply giving...

Jeopardy
A: ’I’m Ready To Play Baseball’
Q: What does Starlin Castro finally say several pitches after a pitching change?
I like hearing more about Sveum working with Castro
From today’s Trib
Hands-on managing: Sveum worked with Castro on his defense on Friday, teaching him to gain ground when a ball is hit to him.
“It’s not charging the ball, or the dreaded term, ’Don’t let the ball play you,’ " Sveum said. “Only God knows when it’s going to take a bad hop. It’s just a matter of understanding when you gain ground on ground balls, you’re going to throw the ball five (fewer) yards, your feet are going to be moving. … It’s a work in progress. There are a lot of things I saw today he definitely needs to work on.”
This could help Castro and LaHair a lot.
