De Facto Rule 5 Thread

I serve two roles on this board. One is to talk about the upcoming June Draft. I have an idea for a piece on Lucas Giolito and the Sixth Pick, but that can wait a week or so. The other is to talk about Rule 5 action. From David Patton and Mike Parisi, I've been more than willing to write a post to create discussion on those guys that will probably never have positive WAR values, but may require a year on the big league roster to stick around.

So, since this year we have three guys to discuss, we might as well have a place to drop all our comments. But before I get there, a few ground rules should help things out.

1. Lendy Castillo is not David Patton.

2. Theo Inc is not Jim Hendry

3. Dale Sveum is not Lou Pinella.

If you don't think Castillo will ever make it as a high leverage reliever, that's fine. You're probably correct. There is no need to throw former team employees under the bus by making a derogatory comment about someone. I figure Theo is probably already discussing lower-level players with Philly as far as someone they might take in exchange. I'm not sure the Phillies would want a guy hanging to his profession by an ever-thinning thread, but if you have an idea of who you think you make for good bait, I love prognostications like that.

We also have two Rule 5 guys in other team's camps. Ryan Flaherty is battling for a utility role with Baltimore, and Marwin Gonzalez is trying to hook on with the league-jumping Astros. I don't foresee TheoJed dealing either for a 'low level prospect', but I could be wrong.

I haven't been able to follow Castillo much at all, but AzPhil seems to think a trade may be in the works, if needed. I'd have no problem Theo springing for 25 K to bring back Flaherty or Gonzalez.
