And a happy Mother's Day to all of you BCB moms out there.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs trapped the Sacramento River Cats (Athletics), 4-3.

Starting pitcher Chris Rusin was brilliant today with eight shutout innings. He allowed five hits and issued two walks. Rusin struck out seven.

The Cubs handed the ball over to Scott Maine with a four-run lead in the ninth, but Maine gave up two hits and a walk and exited after only one out with the score 4-1 and two men on. The one out was a strikeout. Maine gave way to Blake Parker, who allowed both inherited runners to score but also got the final two outs to end the game. Parker allowed a sac fly and an RBI single while getting the final two outs. He neither walked nor struck anyone out.

DH Anthony Rizzo was kept in the park today, but he did go 3 for 4 with two doubles. Rizzo scored once.

Left fielder Ty Wright hit a two-run home run in the third inning to break a scoreless tie. It was Wright's second home run for Iowa this year. Wright was 2 for 4.

Tennessee Smokies

Rained out. They try to play a double-header with Jackson tomorrow, starting at 3:30 central time.

Daytona Cubs

Took the day off. Played golf. The Boston media ripped into them.

Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs swatted the Burlington Bees (Athletics), 5-3.

Jose Rosario got his third win by pitching six shutout innings to start the game. Rosario gave up three hits and three walks while striking out seven.

Like Iowa, Peoria had a four-run lead in the ninth inning and almost blew it. Charles Thomas gave up two runs and exited with the bases loaded with two outs before Jeffrey Lorick was summoned to end the game. Lorick struck out the last batter of the game looking to pick up his fifth save.

First baseman Paul Hoilman had his 24 game hit streak end yesterday, so he started a new one today by getting two singles in four at-bats. Hoilman had one RBI.

Third baseman Wes Darvill went 0 for 2 with three walks and two runs scored. DH Rafael Lopez was 1 for 2 with two walks. Lopez scored once and had one RBI.
