I feel like a John Pinnett gig “I’m Starving”. Only instead of food it’s baseball or should I say good Cubs baseball. Or is that a oxymoron? Lately it seems to be. Here is my question: “What would this team be like if Hendry and Quade were still here”. This could be a stupid exercise (yea it is) but here is my guess:
1st: Would not have signed either Pujols or Fielder so we would have Carlos Pena back in a two year “pillow” contract
2nd: Blake Dewitt and Jeff Baker
SS: Starlin Castro
3rd: Resigned Aramis Ramirez for what he got in Milwaukee
RF: Bryan LaHair
CF: Marlon Bryd
LF: Alfonso Soriano
C: Geovany Soto
Bench: Reed Johnson, Tony Campana, Darwin Barney, Koyie Hill, and the surprise addition of Nefi Perez (cause I’m so D**n good (quote - Full Metal Jacket)).
Starters: Ryan Dempster, Matt Garza, James Russell, CJ Wilson (guaranteed ten year $200m), Randy Wells
Relief: Andrew Cashner, Sean Marshall, Carlos Marmol, Kerry Wood, Rafael Dolis, Jeff Samardzija, John Gaub
Why did I post this? Why not? Would we be in the same position? Honestly, I think we would. I believe regardless of the record now we are better off in many ways. I did not think this team would be good but not this bad. Happy Memorial Day folks.
