What to do with Dempster?

Looked around a little bit and didn't see any posts specifically on Dempster, so figured I could ask two questions. What should we do with Dempster, and what are we comfortable doing with him?

I ask this after seeing this link regarding Theo's openness to bringing Demp back. He's been pitching very well this year at times, and other times he's been very mediocre, which makes him arguably our best pitcher (insert depression over a horrible year here).

Do you try and sign him for 2 more years and hope his stuff doesn't fall off dramatically? Do you try and go year-to-year with him, although that is obviously much less appealing to Dempster? Do you try and trade him at the deadline, get an interesting prospect or two and move on? Or, the most intriguing option IMO, do you trade him, and tell him he will be someone we look at bringing back in the offseason, assuming he doesn't sign an extension with his new team?

I'm interested in the two different answers here. What "should" the team do, and what would be acceptable to you fans?
