I think any trade would have to center around Matt Barnes or Anthony Ranaudo. Would you consider taking Kevin Youkilis since the Red Sox want to move him? Would taking on his salary 100% allow the Cubs to ask for additional high level prospects?
I get that Youkilis is 33 and no longer in his prime but the Red Sox seem eager to move him. On the surface it may seem crazy but could the teams get creative and work a trade that appeals to both teams. Youkilis has the plate patience the Cubs seem to need and he could be a good influence for this year and next on plate discipline until Vitters or somebody else is ready to take over at 3B. Middlebrooks is obviously ready to play 3B everyday for the Red Sox and they could use starting pitching help.
Looking for input from a few of you BCBers who really keep up with prospects and like to talk trades.
