The Cubs are obviously happy with what they've been seeing out of Anthony Rizzo.
But what of the man he was traded for? And what does that man have to do with Arizona uber-prospect Trevor Bauer?
Well, Andrew Cashner is of course the primary player acquired for Rizzo. He (as a SP for SD) and Bauer (1st big league start) both made their "debuts" tonight. Fangraphs compared the two in an article today. Results?
Bauer... not so great.
Cashner... lights out. Granted, it was the Astros... but Cashner threw six no-hit, shutout innings before tiring in the seventh and surrendering a single and then a two-run HR to Brian Bogusevic in the seventh, ending his night. Final line: 6.1, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K.
So the Cubs are happy with Rizzo. The Padres have to pretty pleased with Andrew Cashner.
Disclaimer: This is not a plea for a "do over" on the trade. It is simply an observation on the very, very, very, very early results of the two headliners in Theo's first big trade for the Cubs.
