Rogers: Why is Kenney still here? Oh... and the Cubs spend a LOT of money on making people go away.

Uncle Phil wonders why / Crane Kenney hasn't been swept out in the house cleaning. It's his usual off-the-cuff, not all that well thought out kind of article, seeing as it doesn't actually cover that Theo doesn't have the authority to fire Kenney since those two each "report" directly to TR. Now, could Theo try to bend TR's ear and say "Crane needs to go"? Maybe. But the most interesting part of the article to me was, naturally, buried at the bottom. "Accounting by CSN Chicago finds that with Fleita the Cubs now will have paid about $49 million to players, managers, coaches and executives who no longer work for them. That sounds to me like a crazy way to run the business." That's.... a lot. And, whether you (or Phil) agrees with the practice, it sure explains where some of the major league payroll money has gone. And keep in mind that is only the money spent on making people go away... it doesn't cover raises over previous years (e.g., Jed's salary vs. Hendry's) or additions (all the new positions being created).
