Cubs Minor League Wrap: August 27

Some teams are playing out the string and others are getting ready for the post-season.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were silenced by the Nashville Sounds (Brewers), 4-3.

Former Sound Seth McClung started for the Iowa Cubs tonight and took the loss. McClung gave up four runs on eight hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out five.

Jaye Chapman returned from the disabled list and pitched a scoreless innings. He allowed no hits but one walk. Chapman struck out two.

Third baseman Greg Rohan hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, his 21st on the year and fourth with Iowa. Rohan was 2 for 4 and scored twice.

Left fielder Dave Sappelt hit a two-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning to get the Cubs to within a run. It was Sappelt's seventh homer. He was 1 for 4.

Tennessee Smokies

The Tennessee Smokies dunked the Mobile BayBears (Diamondbacks), 5-3.

Starting pitcher Dae-Eun Rhee allowed two runs on eight hits over five innings and he collected his ninth win. One of the two wuns was unearned. Rhee walked two and struck out six.

Brian Schlitter pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save. He struck out one.

Center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning that put the Smokies up for good. It was Ha's sixth home run this season. Ha was 2 for 4.

Shortstop Junior Lake was 2 for 4 with a double. Second baseman Logan Watkins was 2 for 4.

Daytona Cubs

Hurricane Isaac. They'll try to play a double-header tomorrow, but the forecast is not good.

Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs won their third game in a row, 7-3 over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers).

Starling Peralta started and got the win, his fifth of the season. Peralta went six innings and gave up two runs on three hits. Peralta walked two and struck out eight. Peralta retired the first twelve batters he faced.

First baseman Jacob Rogers hit his second tape-measure blast in as many days. His home run came with a man on in the fourth inning. Rogers went 2 for 3 with a walk. He scored twice.

Left fielder Bijan Rademacher was 2 for 4 and both of his singles drove home one runner.

Right fielder Jorge Soler was 1 for 3 with a double and a hit-by-pitch. Soler stole a base and scored twice.

Boise Hawks

Coming home from Canada for their final home stand of the regular season.

AZL Cubs

Beat the Giants, 3-1.

Ryan McNeil tossed four innings without allowing a hit.
