Seven players have received non-roster invitations to spring training. A couple of them might even make the team.
There hasn't been any official release about this, but in perusing the Cubs website today, I came across this list of seven non-roster invitees to spring training. If you don't want to click on the link, here are the somewhat-lucky seven:
Pitchers Andrew Carpenter, Jaye Chapman, Blake Parker, Cory Wade Catcher J.C. Boscan Infielder Edwin Maysonet Outfielder Brian Bogusevic
There will, most likely, be a couple more names added to this list later, and there will be others who have been signed to minor-league deals who will undoubtedly appear in spring-training games (Jensen Lewis, for example).
Of the eight players above, my feeling is that three of them have a fair chance at making the 25-man roster: Chapman, who pitched reasonably well in a September callup; Wade, who has had some major-league relief success (though was awful in 2012), and Bogusevic, a Chicago-area native who might become a useful spare-part outfielder. In the absence of any real news, have at it for discussion this afternoon.
