How Is Daniel Bard Doing In Winter League?

Daniel Bard is pitching for the Caguas Criollos (pronounced KAH-goo-as Kree-OH-Jos) in the Puerto Rico Winter League. The dead-tree edition of Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día has an article about the reliever titled "Bard is 'Lost'" (sorry, there's no online link to this one). In his only outing so far last Tuesday, Bard didn't get an out, issued a walk, hit three batters, threw a wild pitch and allowed two earned runs (his team won, though). According to Manager Pedro López, it was the pitcher's first in-game outing in five months and he is looking to use Bard in low-pressure situations until his mechanics are fixed. In fact, the interesting part about the article is that Bard said he has tinkered with his mechanics and was throwing sideways Tuesday instead of his usual over-the-top pitching motion. Bard said he changed his pitching motion to do it from the side and in a bullpen session Wednesday he felt better because he wasn't throwing completely from the side as he did on Tuesday but from a slightly higher but not over-the-top arm slot. We'll see how Bard does in future outings. I'll keep you all posted.
