OT: Researching a Family Member Who Supposedly Played MiLB

Hey Guys,

There's a family legend/story that my great grandpa James Bert Johnson played in something called the "Cotton Belt League" or "Cotton States League" (I think it was the former) probably in the late 20s-early 30s (as he was born in 1910) and supposedly faced off against Dizzy Dean. What's the best way to go about trying to prove the veracity of this? BBRef has nothing.

Some posters on Baseball Fever suggested that the Cotton Belt League might be totally outside the minor league system, so I would have a harder time nailing down whether or not my ancestor actually played organized ball (seeing if he played against Dizzy Dean is secondary in my quest)

Thanks,

JOVE
