Brian Bogusevic goes deep twice in an Iowa win. Daytona drops a crucial double-header as the first half nears an end.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs made the Oklahoma RedHawks (Astros) blue, 5-1.

Chris Rusin got the win with seven shutout innings tonight. He gave up only five hits, all singles, and walked. Rusin struck out three.

Almost all the offense came from a pair of two-run home runs by right fielder Brian Bogusevic. He hit the first one in the second inning and the second one in the seventh. That gives him eight home runs this year. Bogusevic was 2 for 4 and stole a base.

Third baseman Junior Lake went 2 for 4 and scored once. Lake also had one steal.

Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs were swept in a double-header, 6-3 and 5-4.

In game one, the Cubs early 2-0 lead disappeared when starter Ben Wells got into trouble in the fourth inning. Wells took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits over 3.2 innings. Two of the five runs were unearned. Wells walked two and struck out five.

Catcher Chadd Krist hit his first home run of the season in the sixth inning with the bases empty for Daytona's third and final run. Krist was 2 for 3 with a walk.

Right fielder Jorge Soler was 2 for 4 with an RBI double in the third inning.

Game two was started by Matt Loosen, who took the loss after allowing two runs, both scoring on a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Loosen allowed four hits and issued three walks while striking out six.

The real damage was done when Austin Reed gave up three runs in the sixth inning. Kirk pitched the other three innings and allowed three runs on four hits. He walked one and fanned four.

DH Zeke DeVoss made game two interesting when he crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. It was his third home run of the season. DeVoss was 2 for 3 with a walk. But the game ended when second baseman Wes Darvill was stranded on second base. Darvill was 0 for 1 with three walks and a run scored.

Left fielder John Andreoli was 3 for 5 with two doubles and a stolen base. He scored one run and batted one in.

Despite dropping the double-header, Daytona is still only one game out of first place with four games to play in the first half. However, there are four teams in the North Division clumped within a game of first.
