According to Jon Heyman "Yankees dangling Phil Hughes for hitter to help flailing offense". This may be a good time to go get Phil Hughes if the Cubs brass think they can sign him or flip him again before the trade deadline. Hughes has plus stuff, but needs to get out of NY. If the Cubs do deal Garza, Hughes may be a good alternative to sign as a free agent at years end. We would expect the Yankees to take all of Soriano salary or most of it, so we can use that money to sign either Garza to a long term deal, or if we deal him, sign him at the end of the year. Regardless, Phil Hughes salary comes off the books at the end of the year, and he may be a cheaper Free Agent at end of year. He will be better in the NL Central (refer to AJ Burnett), and if he has a good 2nd half and enjoys Chicago, may return for less money.
