Only a week ago many fans were actually envisioning a .500 season. We'd actually had a good West Coast road trip and Lake had arrived as the Cubs answer to the Dodgers Puig. We were heading home where the Friendly Confines would certainly bring us closer to the middle of the pack.
What happened? Let's look at our season results. Against teams with winning records we have a less than dismal 18-36 record. On top of that, we haven't even played 6 more teams above .500. When we've surrendered more than 3 runs we are 8-50. Yes, our bullpen has been lousy and the xFIP is 2nd worst in baseball while the BB rate is 3rd worst.
Offensively we have the 4th best ISO number due to our high HR rate while the babip is baseball's lowest. Is it a coincidence that team babip is almost exactly Rob Deer's career number?
