Read the article on the 1984 Cubs from the Convention and was wondering, for all of those old enough who followed, which collapse was worse? 1984 or 2003? I'm too young to have watched 1984 (1986 was my first season). Both involved 3 straight losses when the Cubs were one win away. 2003 may have been worse because it was at home and they were 5 outs away. Plus, that team seemed to have destiny on their side while the 1984 team would have had to upset the mighty Tigers. Still, 1984 was the magical season after 39 years of ineptitude and the Cubs got homered off Lee Smith in Game 4 and had their Cy Young winner who only lost one game all season blow a 3-run lead in Game 5. I still hear guys lament Steve Garvey.
Maybe the best answer to this is that both stung about the same.
