Jason Heyward

So what do you think it would take to pry Jason Heyward away from Atlanta? He'll make $7.8 million in 2015 and is a free agent at the end of the season. He's generally considered an elite corner outfielder, but his bat hasn't developed the way most fans (at least) would like. He slugged under .400 in 2014.

Atlanta is in a state of flux at the moment, with no permanent GM in place yet. And we don't know how the new GM will feel about Heyward. I wouldn't exactly call him a "buy low" candidate, but at the very least he's a "buy medium" kind of guy.

Because Heyward's contract is up at the end of 2015, you wouldn't include a premium prospect unless you thought the Cubs were in a really good position to win the division, and that Heyward would be the missing piece. I certainly think the team looks a lot better with him than without him. But so do the Braves, so maybe you only do the deal contingent upon Heyward signing an extension.

The Braves could use an upgrade at second base and third base. Evan Gattis is streaky, and was pretty bad in the second half last year. Frankly, Atlanta needs offense. So while I would like to see Heyward in blue pinstripes next season, I don't see how this gets down without becoming a much more involved trade (possibly involving a third team). But I'd love to read other ideas.
