While we follow along here at BCB with the current Wrigley Field construction project, I thought it would be interesting for all of you to have a look at how the Cubs took down the original 1937 bleachers and outer wall and built the structure that's now being demolished and rebuilt.
There are some good photos here showing the original outer bleacher walls, how the team prepared for demolition (I particularly like the photo of the batting cage being wheeled down Sheffield) and the beginnings of demolition.
You'll note that these photos look quite similar to the ones I've been posting about the current work at Wrigley, except on a much smaller bleacher structure.
The photos in this gallery were all taken between October 1 and October 15, 2005, a little more than nine years ago. You can see that the amount of equipment needed to demolish the old bleachers was quite a bit less than what they're using now.
I'll be continuing this series on and off through the offseason, as well as continuing to cover the current demolition and rebuild.
