The Las Vegas 51s are the host each spring of "Big League Weekend," and the Cubs have been frequent participants in this two-day jaunt to Sin City.
2015 will be no exception, as announced by the 51s on their website Friday:
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, announced today the schedule for the 2015 Big League Weekend at Cashman Field. The Chicago Cubs will make their 11th straight appearance to Las Vegas for two games against the Oakland A's on Friday and Saturday, March 13 and 14. Game times are TBA and both games will feature split-squads. Big League Weekend ticket packages are available NOW by calling the 51s office at (702) 798-7825. The Cubs have recorded 15 sellouts over the past 10 seasons (2005-14) for their annual Big League Weekend visits to Cashman Field.
Most likely, this will include a Friday night game followed by a Saturday afternoon contest. If you're thinking about going, this reminder: tickets to this event have in the past been quite expensive considering you're watching a split-squad exhibition game. Ticket prices have gone past the $50 mark in the last couple of years, which I'd consider prohibitively expensive for such an event.
But maybe you're going to be in Vegas anyway at that time, or you live there, and you'd like to see the Cubs play. In that case, here's your chance. The other half of the Cubs squad will be playing the Indians at Mesa on March 13 and the Brewers at Maryvale on March 14.
This makes 31 total spring games for the Cubs, including the 29 already scheduled for the Cactus League.
