Cubs vs. Rockies at Mesa Preview, Tuesday 3/11, 3:05 CT

The Cubs go for their fifth straight win this afternoon in Mesa.

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona -- The Cubs' longest winning streak over the last two regular seasons is five games, from May 26-31, 2013.

They have a chance to match that today. Obviously, five wins in a row in spring training means little, but wins are nice no matter where they come.

Meanwhile, Starlin Castro is likely going to be out another week:

Castro hurt himself while sliding into second base in a game March 2. The Cubs said he would be out seven to 10 days.

He's been getting daily treatment while awaiting a return to baseball activities. It's doubtful he'll accompany the team to Las Vegas on Saturday and Sunday when it plays the New York Mets.

"I'll just stay here," he said.

Fortunately, there's still time even after that for Castro to get ready for the season. Today, Darwin Barney takes a turn at shortstop.

Cubs lineup:

Lake CF, Schierholtz DH, Ruggiano LF, Rizzo 1B, Castillo C, Sweeney RF, Murphy 2B, Valbuena 3B, Barney SS

The injury to Ryan Sweeney's knee when he ran into the wall Sunday is obviously not serious, as he is back in the lineup today.

Rockies lineup:

Barnes RF, Dickerson LF, Arenado 3B, Parker 1B, Stubbs CF, McKenry C, Rutledge 2B, Pacheco DH, Janish SS

Travis Wood makes his first start at Cubs Park, and second of the spring. Scheduled to pitch relief today for the Cubs: Chang-yong Lim, Carlos Pimentel, Hector Rondon and Brian Schlitter.

Jorge De La Rosa gets the start for Colorado. Also scheduled: Jordan Lyles, Rex Brothers, LaTroy Hawkins and Chris Martin (Martin is the guy Kris Bryant took deep last week).

Today's game is on cubs.com with Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie.

MLB.com Gameday

Here is the complete MLB.com Mediacenter for today.

For spring-training games, we'll have a first-pitch thread at game time and one overflow thread, 90 minutes after game time (because I know how you all like overflow threads!). For today's game, that will be 3 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT. These threads will not post individually onto the front page; instead, you can find links to them in the box marked "Chicago Cubs Game Threads" at the bottom of the front page. They will also appear in this StoryStream™. The pitcher box and regular-season stats will return on Opening Day.

Discuss amongst yourselves.
