My crystal ball has been speaking to me lately, and I'd like to share some of its more interesting visions.
We start strong. Like really strong. First place through April. Then we kind of taper off. It looks like we're only about 6 games out at the break, but the Cards are heating up. It's clear we don't have a chance at the postseason even with our solid play. We still finish 84-78 but we still miss the playoffs.
Jason Hammel puts together a nice first half and is flipped at the deadline for prospects.
Starlin Castro regains his form. He gets to the 200 hit mark again, while hitting a respectable .285. His defense takes another step forward and the talks of him being traded disappear.
Jeff Samardzija has his best season and is extended right around the trade deadline. This site crashes. Finishes season with 16 wins, 3.60 ERA
Javy Baez gets called up to play 2nd and takes the league by storm, almost Puig style. He ends the year with a .270 BA, 21 HR, 65 RBI.
Anthony Rizzo has an enormous year. I'm talking .270, 38 HR, 120 RBI. Boom.
Travis Wood has another solid year. 14 wins, 3.40 ERA.
Pedro Strop takes over as closer early in the year. 40 saves, 2.00 ERA.
Jake Arrieta proves to be pretty dang good. 12 wins, 3.60 ERA.
Mike Olt plays a very solid 3rd base. .250 with 29 HR and 79 RBI.
Junior Lake plays very meh. In fact, our entire outfield is pretty dang meh. Probably the reason we are on the outside looking in come playoff time.
I'm the enigma. I'm a Cubs fans and an optimist. Sue me.
