I don't watch a lot of baseball that involves other teams. For one thing, I don't have time. I don't see as much of the Cubs as I would like. When I do have the opportunity to watch someone else -- because I'm bored and they happen to be on TV -- I might watch an inning or two, but it generally doesn't hold my interest for long. I like baseball, but it's a long season, and it's even less fun to watch other teams when the Cubs are so bad.
That said, there always seem to be a few players that fascinate me -- players that I enjoy watching even if I otherwise wouldn't care about the game. I assume most people are like this. For awhile, of course, there were the "homerun races", where everyone tuned in to every McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds at bat. But I'm not talking so much about players trying to break records.
Tony Gwynn was always a player that I loved to watch hit. And I'd watch Greg Maddux pitch even after he left the Cubs, because it was like watching a really good magician. More recently, I'll put down the remote and watch if I stumble across Tim Lincecum pitching. Even despite his difficulties over the last couple of years, I still find him to be one of the more exciting pitchers in the game.
Are there any non-Cub players you follow, for reasons other than your fantasy team?
