Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 54

On a day like this, this photo seemed fitting. - Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Another day, another early blowout.

When the highlight of the game is Brian Schlitter getting a hit in his first-ever major league plate appearance, you know there are probably better ways to spend your afternoon.

THE THREE HEROES:

  • Superhero - Anthony Rizzo (.006). In what could be the weakest Superhero award of the season, he wins it by getting beaned (OK, beaned in the knee.)
  • Hero - Brian Schlitter (.001). Fun fact: He is currently the 62nd player in history to have a hit in one career plate appearance.
  • Sidekick - Brian Schlitter (.000). With four players tied at zero (Schlitter, Justin Grimm, James Russell, Justin Ruggiano), I'm invoking executive power to break it based on two innings of work and no runs allowed. The fourth decimal place is probably in his favor.

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Big Goat - Jeff Samardzija (-.347). Apparently he was just in a hurry to get the road trip over with.
  • Goat - Emilio Bonifacio (-.031). Days like this, it doesn't pay to lead off.
  • Kid - Starlin Castro (-.027). I know he wants to play every game, but someone really needs to talk him out of it.
