Cubs Heroes and Goats: Game 73

Brian Kersey

Two pinch-hitters led to two-thirds of the Goat podium on Sunday.

Getting four baserunners off of Tony Watson and Mark Melancon in the same game is quite the accomplishment. Unfortunately, it only led to one run.

Writer's Note: The daily selections of the three Heroes and three Goats are based solely on the top three and bottom three WPA scores for the game. The selections are not based on my subjective opinion.

THE THREE HEROES:

THE THREE GOATS:

  • Billy Goat - Luis Valbuena (-.228). Another 0-for-4 day, and the whiff in the ninth was the cherry on top.
  • Goat - Welington Castillo (-.139). The first pinch-hitter to whiff in the eighth with runners on second and third, followed by...
  • Kid - Justin Ruggiano (-.123). The second pinch-hitter to whiff in the eighth with runners on second and third.
