This preview is being written in the early afternoon Thursday, before lineups were available (check the BCB Twitter feed) and before the result of the suspended game was known. Or it could even still be going.
One thing that's unusual for recent years at Wrigley is two (well, one and a half) games with a single admission. There hasn't been a single-admission doubleheader at Wrigley Field since this one August 3, 2006 against the Diamondbacks. That was necessitated by a rainout the previous night; it was the last game of 2006 against the D'backs and the teams had no remaining common off days and on getaway day, it wasn't feasible to play a split doubleheader.
So enjoy this rarity.
The rest of this post is just for the pitcher matchups and Gameday links and TV schedule information. Carry on.

Travis Wood, though he had a bit of a rough time in his last start, still has a 3.12 ERA and 1.442 WHIP for August. The WHIP is a clue to his bad season -- too many walks, still, despite decent numbers otherwise. He hasn't faced the Giants in more than a year -- since July 28, 2013. That was one of his best starts of 2013. A repeat of that one would be nice.
Madison Bumgarner is having yet another fine year. Seems like he's been around forever, right? He's one week older than Anthony Rizzo, yet has thrown over 900 big-league innings. Like Wood, he has not faced his opponent today in over a year, since July 27, 2013. He threw eight shutout innings that day, though the Cubs won the game 1-0... on a home run by Nate Schierholtz. Man, times change, right?
Both these men could use some facial-hair advice, I'd say.
Today's game is on CSN Chicago.

For 2014, we are going to have the same game-thread routine as 2013. Here's how it works.
You'll find the game preview -- like this one -- posting as the first link in the StoryStream™, which will then contain all the overflow threads and the recap. The recap will also be on the front page as a separate post; once I post a game recap, the stream for each game will be retitled "Cubs vs. (Team) (Day of Week) Game Threads" so you can go back and find every thread related to that particular game.
Discuss amongst yourselves.
