Jed and Theo have done this the right way. They built up a loaded farm system, didn't give a hoot about critics and went at their pace. Now, it appears we can being to see some returns. My proposal is this: is it crazy to talk about the Cubs as contenders next year? They've been near .500 since June 1 and they will end the season with more talent on the roster than they started with (which is the whole idea). I don't think the FO is going to flat out punt on next season, so I think contending for a second wild card is in the picture. It would take some overachieving, but hey. It's about time we catch a break.
