Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs peaked over the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners), 13-7.
Starter Dallas Beeler got his first win of the season after he gave up just one unearned run over six innings. Beeler surrendered five hits and two walks. He struck out six.
Rubi Silva hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give Iowa a 5-1 lead. It was Silva's second home run of the season. Silva also hit a two-run double in the sixth inning. Silva was 3 for 4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Shortstop Javier Baez was 3 for 4 with a walk. Baez scored twice and had two RBI. He also made two errors.
DH Taylor Davis had a pair of doubles in a 2 for 5 game. He batted two runs in and scored once. Chris Valaika was 2 for 5 and scored twice.
Matt Szczur was hit in the hand by a pitch in the first inning and then exited the game in the fourth to go for x-rays. His replacement, Jonathan Mota, went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies were edged by the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), 2--1.
The Smokies wasted a great start by Corey Black, who allowed only two baserunners over five inning: one infield single and one error. Black struck out six.
Michael Jensen took the loss when he allowed two runs in the eighth inning on a hit batsman, a double and a single. That was the only inning Jensen threw. He struck out one.
The Smokies scored a run in the top of the first inning when Elliot Soto singled and after a walk by Dan Vogelbach sent him to second, Soto scored on an RBI single by Willson Contreras. The Smokies would only get one more hit the rest of the game.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans factionalized the Potomac Nationals, 7-3.
Starter Paul Blackburn got his third win after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. Blackburn struck out five and walked one.
Third baseman Jeimer Candelario hit solo home runs the first two times he came to the plate tonight, in the second and fourth innings. They were Candelario's first two home runs this year. He was 3 for 4.
First baseman Jacob Rogers was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
The Pelicans scored six runs on six hits in the fourth inning. They had one run and four hits in the other seven innings.

The Pelicans have picked up right where last season's Kane County Cougars left off. Their current record is 26-14 and they have a 6.5 game lead in the Carolina League Southern Division.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were bowled over by the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Rays), 6-3.
Starter Jake Stinnett pitched three innings in his first game since coming off the disabled list. He allowed one run on four hits. He walked one and struck out three, all of which came in the final four batters he faced.
Tommy Thorpe took the loss in relief. He pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out one.
South Bend scored all three runs in the third inning and two of them came on a double by Cael Brockmeyer. He later scored on a Yasiel Balaguert infield single. Brockmeyer and Balaguert were both 2 for 4.
First baseman Gioskar Amaya was 3 for 4 and scored on the Brockmeyer single. Second baseman Andrew Ely was 2 for 4.
