This has been rumored for weeks, but Friday morning, the Cubs made it official, via press release:
The Chicago Cubs today announced the Sunday, September 25 game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field, currently listed as “TBD," has been selected for an exclusive national telecast by ESPN and is now scheduled to begin at 7:08 p.m. CT.
This game will be the Cubs’ sixth Sunday night appearance on the Worldwide Leader. Currently, they are 2-2 in Sunday night games, defeating the Pirates (June 19) and Mariners (July 31) at Wrigley, and losing to the Giants (May 22) at San Francisco and Cardinals (August 14) at Wrigley. Six times is the maximum for any one team on ESPN’s Sunday night national game.
The Cubs game vs. the Astros this Sunday, September 11 will be their fifth ESPN Sunday night appearance.
If you have tickets to the September 25 game, take note of this game time. It will be ESPN’s final Sunday night game of 2016, as on the last day of the season, Sunday, October 2, all games will begin at the same time, 3 p.m. Eastern (2 p.m. Central).
