Ken Macha Fired

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2628358

I am sure that this will further annoy the masses who do not like the hiring of Lou Pinella. The A's have fired Ken Macha following the ALCS loss to Detroit. Joe Girardi and Bruce Bochy are thought to be at the top of the A's list of replacements.

Just saw that
With a 368-280 record in four seasons he will be picked up by someone. Interested to see if anyone thinks we hired one day too soon with Pinella's announcement slated for tomorrow.

I tend not to want people Billy Beane fires...
...but maybe this is a mistake.

What the hell did Macha do anyway?

He apparently was fired for being mean.

He was fired
for losing in the playoffs when my future second husband SPECIFICALLY told him to win.

Jeesh. Some people just can't follow directions.

umm...
if you are talking about Billy Beane, I think he plays for the other team.

Different Billy Beane
This one is the GM of the A's? Moneyball? Ring any bells?

I think the implication was that...
Mr. Beane likes other balls than just those of the money variety.

Like Volleyballs.

Yeah, I read the book...
I work at a bookstore and I saw a book on the shelf that talked about billy bean coming out and so I always just figured it was the A's GM billy beane. Sorry, don't have to get snotty with the "ring any bells" line.

It's all good
We're all a little testy, what with the Cubs being bad at baseball and all.

This is shocking.
Macha's a winner. If I'm Brian Sabean I hire him TOMORROW.

If I'm Brian Sabean...
...I look in the mirror and ask myself:

Why in the sam hell did you trade Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser, and Francisco Liriano for A.J. Pierzynski?

Billy Beane and I agree on one thing
and that is the managerial role isn't hugely important like so many Cub fans tend to believe.  Ken Macha is a dime a dozen manager.  Nothing awful, but nothing special.

Look for Ron Washington to be named new Oakland manager very quickly.

I agree, if you have a Beane-esque GM. Alas, we do not.

Macha
was apparently having troubles communicating with both the players and Billy Beane.

Beane was never wild about him  (if you remember, he was fired two years ago when he wanted a raise only to be rehired a few weeks later when he came down on his contract demands) and now players were griping that he distant and uncommunicative.  Beane didn't have to be told twice.

Yes, Beane believes managers are fairly interchangeable, so he's not going to stick around with one who's upsetting the players and not listening to him much either.

Actually...
... this happened after the 2005 season, IIRC.

When I saw this...
I told my dad sarcastically, 'Hey, maybe Billy Beane will hire Dusty.  I bet they would work out great.'

If you haven't I bet you would enjoy them.  I think it's great he does all that stuff.
