A contest

In honor of this new wonderfully craptastic site, I feel we should have a contest to see who can come up with the most wild rumor and have it posted on this site as a "reliable source"

P.S. My grievances with the false rumors and crap on that site  would have appeared on Mlbtraderumors.com in the comments section if they hadn't been deleted and I hadn't been prevented from commenting.  No, I did not use profanity there I just called BS on the rumors, like this one

Anyone can do what that guy does, pull headlines from espn and local papers and post wild thoughts from message boards on a site and call them rumors.

Anyway give me your best and maybe your wildest dreams will be posted on Mlbtraderumors.com!

I'll go first
As reported earlier in a comment thread on the Number one Cub's blog, Bleed Cubbie Blue, we have learned that the Cubs are inquiring about a deal to bring both Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz to the Cubs for Jose Macias and Corey Patterson.

It was reported here first, Al Yellon the proprietor of this blog was not available for comment which leads us to believe this rumor is true.

I like this especially since...
... if the site in question picks this up, I'll get a boost in my hit count!

by Al Yellon on Nov 29, 2005 10:14 AM CST up reply actions

OK, wait...
... I have a better one...

The A's signed Esteban Loaiza yesterday.

That puts Barry Zito squarely on the trading block.

The Cubs could offer Corey Patterson, Sergio Mitre and Rich Hill for Zito.

There! Run with that!

by Al Yellon on Nov 29, 2005 10:16 AM CST reply actions

This was on Viva El Birdo
now here's an idea
that makes sense: barry zito. someone posted the notion at the sports lounge --- a's have just signed loiaiza, which maybe gives them the levge they need to give zito up. but for who . . . ? not reyes i hope; at his salary, the guy's just too valuable.

by lboros on Tue Nov 29, 2005 at 12:42:17 PM EST

Plus those bastards over there have been defending MLBtraderumors.com and they have a Marquis/Reyes trade for Abreu on there too.  Idiots.

by DTJchris on Nov 29, 2005 4:02 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I saw that...
... accused me of trolling. Riiiiiight.

There's no question that Billy Beane WILL trade Zito if he gets the right offer. But what do the Cubs have to offer?

And don't say Hill, Mitre and Patterson. That wouldn't do it.

by Al Yellon on Nov 29, 2005 4:03 PM CST up reply actions

I'll send that one back to you...
Remember when the rumor was that the Cubs were going to get Zito back in May? Two questions for you, Al:

First, whatever happened to this deal? I don't doubt you or your source, i'm just curious... Did the A's blue-hot win streak convince them to hold onto Zito for the rest of the year?

Second, did you hear what the Cubs were offering for him back then?

The Cubs will thrive in twenty-oh-five... or sometime thereafter!

by Shawn Domagal-Goldman on Nov 29, 2005 6:08 PM CST up reply actions

I'm certain that...
... the A's hot streak kept Zito there. And no, I don't remember hearing any specific offer of players for Zito back in May, other than there was some interest expressed.

by Al Yellon on Nov 29, 2005 6:30 PM CST up reply actions

Just to show you...
... that that site plays no favorites, he's teasing Cardinal fans with this sort of stuff (quoting the post at Viva El Birdos):
the guy behind mlbtraderumors.com wrote me last night. he's hearing that the cards have something large in the works -- so big that "jocketty issued a memo saying that any disclosure means termination."

This just sounds silly. Gotta give credit, though: he's got all of us talking about his site. Which is probably what he wanted in the first place.

by Al Yellon on Nov 29, 2005 10:26 AM CST reply actions

Yeah he does,
despite my "boycott" I still check the site often to see what ridiculous rumors he comes up with next.

He has now become my sworn enemy, Ha!  Why is he deleting my comments, that is just plain wrong especially since they are not profane in any matter just critical.

Steinbrenner just signed kyle farnsworth to a 7 year 75 million dollar deal plus incentives (saves, K's, TKO's).  Mariano for Patterson, and Mitre.

It was weird...
to have to ban people from my site.  Never had the need in four months at RotoAuthority.

I'm all for constructive criticism - you'll see tons of it all throughout the comments sections.

Now, when a person's vocabulary is limited to "you suck," they're not adding a whole lot, are they?  There's a difference between being critical and just making blind accusations.

Do you have any reason to believe I do this?

"pull headlines from espn and local papers and post wild thoughts from message boards on a site and call them rumors"

Or are you just bursting with vitriol for reasons unknown?

by Tim Dierkes on Nov 29, 2005 1:48 PM CST reply actions

Most of the rumors I found on your site
, I also found on espn insider and prosports daily.

Recently, I have found your Abreu posts to lack the insight that a student of the game such as yourself should have.  A large reason for Abreu's falling off in Sepetember, was the fact that he was playing with a bad shoulder and a strained hamstring.  He did contribute what he could down the stretch but he was playing hurt, not "fatigued" as your source claimed.

What substance are you adding, I can check espn and pro sports daily for the "rumors" that appear on your site.

However I am entertained by your misleading headlines such as "Cardinals Nearing Huge Trade", when the majority of the post references free agent acquisitions.

or

"Juan Pierre To Cubs Complete", when a deal has yet to be completed almost a week after the post.

or

The true gem of the bunch, where you took the rumor right from the comments section of Viva El Birdos, regarding "Mark Buehrle to the Cardinals"

I am waiting for my latest rumor to appear on your site.  It has yet to be refuted, and could be finalized in the coming days according to my sources.

Really?
You found most of my rumors on Pro Sports Daily and ESPN prior to my posting, and I didn't credit either source?  Wow, you'll have to give me, I don't know, some examples of that.

Let's see here, 48 posts, and "most" of them found before I posted them on those two sources...I guess you're going to have 25 rumors that I stole.  I think if you can give me 20 you'll have something there.

Anything from another website is always cited.

Cards Nearing Huge Trade - 4 possibilities mentioned - one of which was a free agent signing - you're right man, the majority references free agent signings!  How dare I mislead the public like that!

Looks like my source missed on Pierre.  Believe it or not, regular guys can compile legit sources with hard work, and not all rumors come true.  Why don't you point out any of the rumors I got right and had first?

You tried pretty hard to make it look like I ripped off Viva for my Buehrle post.  In reality, I gave full credit to the site and prefaced the entire thing by saying it was pure speculation (ie, just a fun idea by Lboros).

by Tim Dierkes on Nov 29, 2005 2:16 PM CST reply actions

Never intimated that you ripped off the sites
Please point out where I said you did not cite the sites.

What I said was what substance do you add to the discussion?  I was mocking the fact that you pulled a rumor from a comments section, not accusing you of  stealing.

Unless you are inside with all the big baseball front offices I will still get my "rumors" straight from them.

This Just In!
Sources close to both organizations say a blockbuster deal is all but finalized.  The trade would send Minnesota Twin's pitcher Johan Santana to the Chicago Cubs for CF Corey Patterson and a player to be named later.

A hotdog vendor, who prefered to remain unidentified. at the Minneapolis Metrodome said, "I'm not certain...but it's possible," when asked if a deal involving Santana was in the final stages.

THEN, when a parking attendant, also wishing to stay unidentified, at Wrigley Field said they believed they saw Patterson reading a Minneapolis Star Tribune the realization that the blockbuster trade was eminant clicked into place.

Why would the Minnesota Twins trade a Cy Young award winning 26 year-old-pitcher?  Isn't it obvious?  Patterson has been labeled as having unlimited amount of potential.  Sure, he hasn't shown a single ounce of that potential, but it's there!  And the Twins have said that Torii Hunter could possibly be on the trading block.

Unfortunately for Cub fans and the organization, the player to be named later could possibly be Utility Infielder Jose Macias.

As soon this gigantic trade is completed, it will be reported here first.

by DTJchris on Nov 29, 2005 2:57 PM CST reply actions

I heard that...
... the hotdog vendor and the parking attendant are also going to be included in this deal.

The Dodgers
have asked permission from the Yankees to interview Joe McCarthy for their vacant managerial job.  When informed that McCarthy has been dead for several decades, Owner Frank McCourt shouted "No, not the senator!  The guy who won four straight World Series for the Yankees in the late 30's.  Oh, damn that Ted Turner.  Why can't I just manage the team myself?"

cubs.com has made this an easy contest...
The Cubs announced last Friday that they have literally turned nothing into something by summoning Aaron Rowand, Daniel Haigwood, and a PTBNL out of thin air, and then trading them to the Phillies for Jim Thome. For verification of this, go to the most trusted Cubs transaction site in all of baseball, the one hosted on the Cubs' official webpage. Since there is no transaction showing how the Cubs' acquired the three players they sent to Philly for Thome, it must be that these players were simply summoned out of thin air. For more info on how this was done, go to directions posted at this  reliable webgroup.
