Open Thread: Cubs vs. Cardinals, Wednesday 4/20

Now that the Cardinals have finished their important work in Rome, they have returned to St. Louis to something even more important, a series with the Cubs.

I mistakenly posted a time of 7:10 pm CDT on the sidebar yesterday; I had forgotten that when ESPN/ESPN2 make the call for an early Wednesday game, the time gets shifted to 6:10 pm CDT, an hour earlier. And the game is on ESPN2; ESPN is carrying NBA games tonight.

1-1 Record 1-0

I'm almost afraid to see tonight's starting lineup.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Too lazy...
...to look up the Cubs' record on the days after new popes were elected.

You made me do this...
8/12/1903: Split DH with Braves, won game 1 7-4, lost game 2 11-10 (no game on 8/10 or 8/11)

9/4/1914: Lost to Reds 4-2

6/22/1963: Lost to Pirates 3-0

8/27/1978: Beat Reds 7-1

Conclusion: inconclusive

Cubs Lineup
Lineup posted:

Patterson, CF
Neifi!, 2B
Lee, 1B
Ramirez, 3B
Burnitz, RF
Nomah, SS
Hollandworth, LF
Barrett, C
Zambrano, P

The flop of Lee and Nomah is unexpected, but probably the right thing to do.

Dusty's Lineup
Give dusty a break with his lineups. The team is 7-7..I think he is just trying to feel out and see what he has.  But lets let him manage and hopefully things will work out right.. Remember the cubs have 2 winning seasons in a row, so lets just take it easy.

Rain Delay
Have they given any indication as to when they'll start the game?

Here's the St. Louis radar...

Looks like they might be able to start in 45 minutes to an hour.

God I hope so.  Cause all I am getting is Marlins-Mets.  I guess thats what I get for living in Florida.

Coming My Way
Looks like those storms will be hitting us here in Evansville when they leave St. Louis.

In regards to the lineup, apparantly Nomah volunteered to be moved down while he is struggling.  Quite a difference from someone else we know, eh?

And one of your color commentators...
...tonight is Steve Stone!  Woo!

Oh man, yeah!
I missed that voice with the Cubs.  =D

Stoney
Great to hear Stoney again!

I've said it b4 and I'll say it again: I learned more about baseball from Steve Stone than I did my Babe Ruth and High School coaches.

oh boy
jeez.  Down goes Nomah.  I know I shouldn't be surprised... but ugh.  Somehow the Perez-Hairston double play combo doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy.

What next???
This is getting ridiculous.

by Al Yellon on Apr 20, 2005 8:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Well
Perez is a Gold Glove SS, and Hairston is good at 2b.  Its Perez on the offense that has me concerned.  Of course Nomar wasn't tearing it up, exactly.

I missed it
trying to get my 2-year old to bed. Was it th groin again? Any indication how bad?

by cubbiejulie on Apr 20, 2005 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

soft muscle tear
in upper groin for Nomar.  Not pulled, tear.  Atleast that is what is being reported.

I guess
there is going to be an MRI tomorrow. Now its a unidentified groin injury.  But it doesn't look good.

D'oh
posted above before I saw the details. Sorry!

I have to know
where does Pat Hughes GO in the 6th inning?

by cubbiejulie on Apr 20, 2005 9:27 PM CDT reply actions

Where is Pat?
I've been wondering that myself.  A regularly scheduled bathroom break?

by mikecarpenter on Apr 20, 2005 9:37 PM CDT reply actions

That's what I think
someone asked him about it last year, and he got all embarrassed and wouldn't say. Quite the mystery. . . .

by cubbiejulie on Apr 20, 2005 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Where the Hell is Dubois?
Does Dusty HATE Jason, or what??? I like Hollandsworth, but jeeze, why do you even Dubois on the bench if you're not gonna use hm in situations like this????  Unless there's an injury, it's just rediculous.

Dubois
The previous post stole my thunder.

Without looking at the matchups, its inconceivable to have Holly batting in that situation.

by Floyd on Apr 20, 2005 10:17 PM CDT reply actions

Matchups? Bullshit.
Anytime Dusty talks about matchups, we now know that he's speaking out of his rear end.  Everybody knows that Dubois should have been in there, matchup-wise and wanting-to-win-wise.

Nice play by Neifi there, by the way.
