Bleacher Reconstruction Update - January 12

Since I was going to drop off my season ticket invoice today (they're due on Monday), and it's an absolutely gorgeous day out (sunny and 55 degrees, probably way nicer than it will be on Opening Day), I thought it would be a good day to take some new pictures.

There was a lot of activity today, and some new structures you'll see inside -- more workers than I'd seen on any other day, and a crane at work on Waveland.

The timeline page has also been updated.

Top: Rear view showing the two towers filled with concrete; looking west on Waveland showing a new structure behind CF on the lower level; behind right field; behind right field, just south of the previous photo

Middle: Underneath the RF corner; view from across Sheffield showing the entire RF structure; walkway now complete all the way to the corner of Sheffield & Waveland; work being done near LF ramp

Bottom: New LF bleacher structure; view from across Waveland showing crane which was lowering steel into place; view looking east on Waveland

Once again Al,
nice job with these pix. I do have a question for you. Have you been able to see anything being built in center field ? I had heard they were putting a restaurant out there. Just wondering if you can make out what may be going on regarding that.
ya know steve, I just don't get it. Here's a guy who's born and raised in the dominican republic and he loses the ball in the sun !!

There is...
... nothing being built in the CF restaurant area yet. I would suspect that'll be the very last thing that goes in.

I have a hard time...
picturing how the restaurant will look like.

For some reason, I have a hard time
believing this entire renovation will be done by Opening day. Especially when I see how hard the workers are working, like in the 5th Picture :)

they'll get it done
if the weather cooperates, which it has to this point.

I didn't look at pic 5...
...until I read your comment.  The only thing missing is the coffee.

White Sox news
Nothing big, and even though this is Sox stuff, it's worth passing. The White Sox and WSCR have announced that they have hired Chris Singleton as their new color commentator. There was much speculation in recent days that Tommy John would get the job. Steve Lyons and others were also thought to be in the running.

I've been listening to Singleton in an interview on WSCR and he's well spoken and seems like a solid guy. Since I refuse to listen to the Sox TV team, I'll be curious to hear how Singleton does.

As you say, Al
"... nothing being built in the CF restaurant area yet. I would suspect that'll be the very last thing that goes in"

Right after they start heating the nacho cheese.

Nice..
Thanks for these continuing updates Al.  They mean alot to those of us who can't be in chicago to see it going on.

And if the
CF restaurant is anything like the hellscape that is The Sheffield Grille down in the rightfield corner, it shouldn't take long to build  at all.  A few steam tables, hopefully a better exhaust  fan and a bunch of bar tables and stools.  You know which the Trib will choose when given the choice of doing it right or doing it the way that will make it most profitable from day one.

the restaurant
hopefully it wont look like the disaster in cincy.
Tampa's restaurant isn't horrible, though it is big. The good thing is there will still be 4 rows of bushes in front.

55 degree weather
Al, we need to save a day like today for Opening Day!

About the poll...
How can someone not have a favorite Cub?  I find it hard to believe.

Nobody would've guessed this, but I voted for Z.  On a more serious note, I had to vote twice because no one had voted for Dempster. I found that hard to believe too, but it's still early. At this moment he still just has my vote.
