Bleacher Reconstruction Update - January 26

Apparently, we have some new BCB readers -- some of the construction workers at the ballpark.

How do I know this? Because one of them spotted me, started yelling "Bleed Cubbie Blue!", and then reminded me of what some of you have already mentioned -- that is, that the wall they're putting up is block, not brick, and that the bricks will indeed go on the outside.

Hey, you guys -- you're doing great work, and I'm sure you appreciate today's terrific weather (47 degrees and sunny), too. Welcome to BCB!

The timeline has also been updated.

Top: Main entrance area; the beginnings of the restaurant area at CF; closer view of previous photo; nearly completed stands under LF

Middle: Construction under CF and view toward new stands being finished in RF; section of inner wall nearly complete on Sheffield (I think this is the guy who yelled "Bleed Cubbie Blue!" at me); RF walkway nearly finished; the "knothole"

Bottom: Underneath RF near my old section; another view of wall; closer view of previous photo

Wow.
That's pretty neat that the construction workers saw this blog.

Yeah...
... I thought so too.

I've heard that there are people in Cubs management who check out these updates too.

New to this board and
think it's a terrific site.  Thanks for all the photos of the work being done!!

If management reads this site, I don't think they'd be upset.  This is much more civil than cubs.com and NSBB.  Far more interesting also.

I said the same thing...
when I found this site. Nothing like having good, civilized conversations about our Cubbies. I first came here looking for the bleacher updates and then soon engaged in conversation from everything and anything. It bares repeating : Nice job Al !!!!
ya know steve, I just don't get it. Here's a guy who's born and raised in the Dominican Republic, and he loses the ball in the sun !!

oh, and 1 more thing Al...
love the countdown clocks !!!!

Thanks, you guys...
... for all the compliments, and it's YOU who help make BCB what it is.

bricks
Al, great photos as usual!
Where is the outside brick wall going to be? Will it be flush with the wall going up now or will there be a gap?

by stadiumguru on Jan 26, 2006 8:01 PM CST reply actions

It's my understanding....
... that it'll be flush with the wall that's currently under construction.

Reasons to keep Todd Walker:
Todd Walker does not sleep. He waits.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Todd Walker.

Todd Walker sleeps with a night light. Not because Todd Walker is afraid of the dark, but the dark is afraid of Todd Walker.

When Todd Walker was in middle school, his English teacher assigned an essay: "What is Courage?" Todd Walker received an "A+" for writing only the words "Todd Walker" and promptly turning in the paper.

Superman owns a pair of Todd Walker pajamas.

Todd Walker owns the greatest Poker Face of all-time. It helped him win the 1983 World Series of Poker despite him holding just a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoloy card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game UNO.

Todd Walker's tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

Git 'er done!

Todd Walker
sounds like Todd Walker and Chuck Norris have a bit in common. :)

To the construction workers
Thanks for all the hard work guys! Stay safe and warm out there. And I hope you get to see a game from inside the walls after all the work's done.

new bricks
How mad are the Cubs going to be when someone paints a strikeout box on the Waveland side and starts throwing a hardball against it.

by hitmesammy on Jan 26, 2006 11:16 PM CST reply actions

That could have happened...
... any time in recent memory, because there were brick walls there before, but it didn't.

Your "old" section
Al, will things be so different that you and your group will be starting over in a new location in the bleachers, on a new bench?

Or are you just waiting to see what it's all like when it's done?  From your game blogging, it seemed to me you guys were attached to that particular bench.

by JohnM on Jan 27, 2006 6:10 AM CST reply actions

Well...
... we were indeed attached to that particular LOCATION.

Since it doesn't exist as such any more, we're going to have to wait and see what happens. I posted a while back, a seating chart I had obtained (note -- that link opens a .pdf file!) -- and so we have a general idea of where we might sit.

But we won't know for sure till the construction is finished.
