Christmas Eve At Wrigley Field

David stopped by the ballpark with his camera this morning; as you can see, it was a beautiful day in Chicago today, with temperatures in the mid-40's.

Left: Construction in CF; rumor has it that all the benches are being replaced. Right: in David's words, "Waveland Avenue, at Kenmore Avenue. Is this tradition, or graffiti?"

Tradition!
Anybody who grew up on the North Side knows that box on the wall is the strike box for a game of "Fast Pitch". It's the reason I didn't make the bigs after blowing out my arm with 300+ innings and 200+ pitch counts throwing a 2 ounce rubber ball every summer of my chidhood. Great memories from that photo. Thanks!

On the near West Side
we called it "Fast Pitching" or "Swift."   And more often than not, we used spray paint rather than chalk.

In the suburbs...
... we called it "Fastball" or "Lineball". Same game, though.

That ivy...
... is going to take several years to "take", if it does at all. Toward the end of the season it appeared to be doing better. We'll see if it comes back strong in the spring.
